The meeting was called to order at 2:30 pm at the Crow Wing County Land Services Building. Board members Peterson, Bilek, and Ommen were in attendance, along with several members of the county Land Services Department, the MN Department of Natural Resources (DNR), and the county Soil & Water District. The applicant, Tom Steffens, and his authorized agent, Cinde Hidde were also present.
This is the second Development Review Team (DRT) meeting on the Driftwood Resort redevelopment plan. This is a large project, and there have been a lot of comments submitted, so this second DRT work session was called as an opportunity to discuss the evolving project plan, to make sure applicant is successful, and that nothing is missed in the process.
The project plan has been modified & refined based on previous comments and discussions. Topics discussed included:
- The land use map amendment required from Shoreland District (SD) to Waterfront Commercial (WC);
- Reduction of impervious surface area to meet 25% requirement;
- The number & location of mooring slips to meet DNR approval;
- Clarification of open space requirement under WC classification;
- Stormwater management onsite;
- Details of water usage and septic system treatment capacity;
- Screening requirement to neighboring residential zone;
- Visual impact of cabins & buildings from lake and neighbors;
- Conditional use permit & variances required under WC class.
No Board action was taken.
