The Informational Hearing was called to order by Chairman Taylor at 6:30 P.M. with the Pledge of Allegiance. All Board members were present.

Chairman Taylor opened the meeting by explaining the procedures to be followed during the Hearing. Taylor also reviewed the replacement schedule for the Fire Department vehicles.

Supervisor Bill Wortham gave a brief explanation as to how the Board and the Fire Department came to the decision to purchase this particular new fire apparatus.

Supervisor Dave Badger expressed his concerns regarding the ladder truck. Badger’s concerns included the expense of the truck, now and over the next 30 years, the safety of the fire fighters and driveway accessibility. Badger also presented an alternative proposal to purchase a used fire truck.

Chief Ron Schultz explained how the new ladder truck would aid the Fire Department, particularly in ventilating a structure fire. Chief Schultz also addressed driveway accessibility in the township.

Taylor suggested that homeowners should be alerted to possible obstructions along their driveways for safety reasons.

Taylor opened the floor to questions from Ideal residents regarding the fire truck. The pros and cons of the fire truck were discussed. Supervisor Wortham presented letters received by the clerk in support and opposition to the fire truck.

The meeting adjourned at 7:55 P.M .
