Board Meeting November 2007

The meeting was called to order by Supervisor Wortham at 7:00 P.M. with the Pledge of Allegiance. All members were in attendance.

Motion by Brandt, seconded by Plein to accept the minutes of the October 9th, 2007 Board Meeting as read. Carried - unanimous

Motion by Brandt, seconded by Plein to accept the Treasurers report for October, 2007. Carried - unanimous

Motion by Plein, seconded by Brandt to pay all bills presented for payment by the Clerk, check #14465 through check #14495, totaling $50,220.54. Carried - unanimous

Vic Kreuziger asked the board if the maintenance department had been able to clear the poison ivy away from the beach area on Ruttger Road. Brandt advised Mr. Kreuziger that they planned on doing the minor clearing within the month. Kreuziger also requested the snowplow slow down this year as to not damage his mailbox. Brandt suggested a swing away mailbox be installed to minimize the damage to his mailbox as the plow driver was traveling at a reasonable speed. Brandt agreed to meet with Kreuziger and the maintenance department in the near future to resolve several road issues.

The Road and Bridge report was as follows:

  1. Supervisor Brandt reported the salt/sand and plow trucks were ready for the winter season.
  2. The Old Whiskey Road turnaround had been improved by the residents as discussed at a previous meeting.
  3. Fawn Lake Road has been completed and paid for and is now the counties responsibility.
  4. Shadow Trail has been accepted by the township and the signs have been installed.
  5. After review, the gas tax list received from the county remains the same as 2006.
  6. After several resident complaints, the township received permission from the owner on Ossie Road to remove the loose rock from his driveway that was being scattered on the road surface.
  7. The Long Farm Road culvert was again clogged with debris. The county agreed to meet with the township to try and improve this ongoing issue.
  8. There were no safety incidents.

Brandt advised the Board of the status of the Chuck Lane development road off of Ossie Rd. Lane agreed to regrade the ditches and have core samples done to evaluate the surface and contact the township at that time.

The Fire Department report was as follows:

  1. There were 3 emergency runs the previous month.
  2. Chief Schultz requested the board accept a new fire fighter to the department.
  3. Schultz presented the Cuyuna Range Mutual Aid Agreement for final review.
  4. The department recently ordered a new thermal imager.
  5. The department currently was testing a boat for 90 days they received from the DNR.
  6. There were no safety incidents.

Motion by Wortham, seconded by Brandt, to accept Joe Osborn to the Ideal Volunteer Fire Department. Carried - unanimous.

The Park and Recreation report was as follows:

  1. Supervisor Plein reported the new sprinkler system and trees had been installed.

The Transfer Station report was as follows:

  1. Brandt reported the Transfer Station was open on Saturdays only now through the winter.
  2. All hazardous waste has been removed by the county and will not be accepted again until the spring.
  3. A container has been purchased to hold aluminum cans for recycling.
  4. Brandt reported on the cost to have a new sign installed along Hwy 16. The board agreed to look into other options.

Brandt gave an update on the recent meetings at the County level regarding the Lands End Boyd Lodge development.

The Board agreed to keep the Appeal and Equalization process at the township level.

Brandt reported on the recent dock meeting he attended, along with an update on the sanitary sewer district.

The board reviewed a variance request from Mary and Bob Schiller on South Point Road. The board agreed unanimously to send a letter of recommendation to Crow Wing County as the request was reasonable.

There being no further business to transact, the meeting adjourned at 8:23 pm.
