Board Meeting May 2011

The Meeting was called to order by Supervisor Brandt at 7:00 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance. All members were in attendance.
       
Motion by Wortham, seconded by Plein to accept the minutes of the April 11th, 2011 Board Meeting as presented.  Carried – unanimous
       
Motion by Wortham, seconded by Brandt to accept the Treasurers report for April, 2011, check #17054 through check #17112, totaling $46,628.70  Carried – unanimous
       
Motion by Plein, seconded by Wortham to pay all bills presented for payment by the Clerk, check #17113 through check #17143, totaling $29,101.13  Carried – unanimous.

Dave Badger presented a proposal for the display of the 1949 fire truck display.  In addition to the truck, historical information about the township and the department would be displayed.  Phase 2 of the project included possible kiosks along a walking path.  Supervisor Plein agreed to be the liaison for the project.

The Road and Bridge report was as follows:

  1. Supervisor Brandt reported the maintenance department was brushing the right of way and shouldering some roads.
  2. Brandt reported the road review had been completed and the following roads were up for consideration for crack sealing or overlay:  Wildemere, Heath Drive, Harbor Lane, the maintenance driveway and parking lot. The estimated cost for the overlay and crack sealing was $188,000.  Motion by Wortham, seconded by Plein, to approve the proposed roads for repair at the cost of $188,000.  Carried – unanimous.
  3. There were no safety incidents.

The Fire Department report was as follows:

  1. There were 8 emergency runs the previous month.
  2. Last months drill was on auto extrication.
  3. The rescue boat was to be in service this week.
  4. Hose testing was scheduled to be conducted this month.
  5. There were no safety incidents.

Supervisor Wortham expressed concern regarding comments made at the Annual Township Meeting by fire department members in reference to the township providing adequate funding to properly equip the department.  The board requested the department provide a monthly update to the board on the specific safety needs and concerns of the department. 

There was nothing new to report for Park and Recreation.

The Transfer Station is now open on Wednesday and Saturday from 8 am to 5 pm and will begin to be open on Mondays on Memorial Day.  Supervisor Plein reported he was taking pictures of the metal pile to see if items are being removed without approval.  Plein indicated he had a laminated map to reference all the disposal sites in the area.  Plein also was tallying the log maps to see how many mattresses and appliances were being disposed of at the station.

Supervisor Brandt has been attending several county meetings regarding planning and zoning issues.

The board agreed to donate $300 towards the Pequot Lakes graduation organization.

The Equalization meeting was conducted on May 2nd and was attended by only two residents of the township.

There being no further business to transact, the meeting adjourned at 8:35 pm.
