The Meeting was called to order by Supervisor Brandt at 7:00 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance. All members were in attendance.
Motion by Wortham, seconded by Plein to accept the minutes of the May 9th, 2011 Board Meeting as presented. Carried – unanimous
Motion by Wortham, seconded by Plein to accept the Treasurers report for May, 2011, check #17144 through check #17165, totaling $44,107.22 Carried – unanimous
Motion by Plein, seconded by Wortham to pay all bills presented for payment by the Clerk, check #17166 through check #17199, totaling $20,890.38 Carried – unanimous.
Supervisor Brandt noted the weekend vandalism done in the town hall. A fire extinguisher was emptied in the gym and meeting area. The damage required a professional cleaning service to remove the residue on the floor and walls. The individuals were identified by the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s department and were contacted. The two juveniles and their parents did some cleaning of the town hall but it was not adequate and a professional had to be hired with costs being covered by the juveniles/parents.
Leroy Dugeon questioned the board if there were any plans to pave the road off of Forest Knolls leading to Whitefish Golf Course. Supervisor Brandt advised Mr. Dugeon that it is not a township road, only dedicated to the public but will contact Anderson Brothers.
Dale Orred stated he recently received a refund on his homeowners insurance due to the recent ISO rating reduction at Station 2. Supervisor Brandt explained the ISO rating process and that all of Ideal Township within 5 driving miles of the Ideal Fire Hall was now at a 7 rating. Mr. Orred presented a generous check of $300 to the fire department.
The Road and Bridge report was as follows:
- Supervisor Brandt reported the maintenance department has completed road brooming.
- Brandt reported the township would complete the first pass of ditch mowing after June 15th as required by the DNR.
- Brandt presented the two road construction bids from Tri-City and Anderson Brothers and the contract was awarded to Anderson with a bid of approximately $125,000, $4,000 less than Tri-City. Anderson was also awarded the crack sealing bid at $12,900.
- The salt contract has been renewed with the state for 2011/2012.
- Brandt reported a stop sign down at Milinda Shores and debris on Harbor Lane and Silver Peak.
- There were no safety incidents.
The Fire Department report was as follows:
- There were 13 emergency runs the previous month.
- Last months drill was on water rescue.
- The annual hose testing was completed.
- ISO testing information was completed and Station 2 is now rated a 7 which should lower insurance rates for the north side residents.
- Chief Clasen agreed to schedule a meeting with the board to discuss certain equipment and safety requirements that need to be addressed.
- The federal radio grant for the 800 mega hertz radio system was denied and a special meeting at the county level was scheduled to discuss the options.
- Chief Clasen brought the fire extinguisher that was dispensed in the town Hall to be recharged.
- There were no safety incidents.
The Transfer Station report was as follows:
- Supervisor Plein reported 670 permits have been sold so far this year.
- Plein suggested the township consider a yard waste disposal site at the north side fire station location to accommodate the north side residents. The board agreed to consider the recommendation.
- The clerk agreed to copy the disposal guide for attendant Kreft rather than have them printed elsewhere.
The Park and Recreation report was as follows:
- Supervisor Plein reported several dead trees in the have been removed.
- A portion of fence and the horseshoes have been removed to accommodate the fire truck display.
- The outside water has been switched on.
- The electric service in the outside pavilion has been upgraded.
- A crosswalk/pedestrian sign has been placed by the park for safety.
- Supervisor Brandt stated he would be holding off on obtaining a building permit for the fire truck display until the septic is inspected and the exact location has been determined.
Supervisor Brandt reported on several Planning and Zoning issues in which no decisions have been made by the county. In addition, compost bins are available at the town hall at significant savings through a soil and water grant. Originally $80, they are currently available for $25.
The board agreed to do further research regarding updating the town hall rental policy.
Supervisor Brandt reported on the recent grant and restoration projects with the Big Island organization and a recent conflict regarding a cable line placed on a resident’s property.
