Board Meeting June 2002

The meeting was called to order by Chairman Taylor at 7:01 P.M. with the Pledge of Allegiance. All members were present.

Motion by Steffen to accept the minutes of the May 13th, 2002 Board Meeting as read. Carried - unanimous

Motion by Wortham to approve the treasurer's report for the month of May as presented. Carried - unanimous

Motion by Steffen to pay all June bills presented for payment by the clerk .
Carried - unanimous

Bruce Schultz from the ICSO gave a report on the shoulder paving on Highway 16. Schultz reported that the estimated cost for the work was $342,639, with Ideal Township's portion being approximately $62,298.The ICSO would cover any costs over this amount.

Ideal Centennial Celebration Co-chairs Lynn Scharenbroich and Linda Ulland gave an update on the activities planned for the August celebration. Scharenbroich also gave estimates on the cost to improve the electrical in the outdoor pavilion to accommodate the band and food vendors, in addition to future activities.

Motion by Wortham to get additional estimates to improve the electrical, combining permanent and temporary changes. Carried-  unanimous

The Land Acquisition Committee discussed the progress on purchasing additional acreage for the township adjacent to the current township property. The property owners, Robert and Taren Saccoman were present and advised the Board that they have decided not to sell the 5 acres to the Township. The Board tabled the issue until the July 8th Board Meeting and advised the Land Committee to explore other options.

A Wabigonish Shore resident advised the clerk that the street sign was misspelled. The clerk agreed to contact the county and have the sign replaced .

The subject of Planning and Zoning in Ideal Township was discussed at length.

The road and bridge report was as follows:

  1. Supervisor Wortham reported that the crack sealing by Anderson Bros. had been completed in the Township.
  2. Wortham reported that Anderson Bros. was planning on starting construction on Township Roads within the month.
  3. A Petition was presented to change the name of Lower Hay Access to Rustic Point Road.
  4. There have been no safety incidents.

Motion by Steffen to allow the name change if the residents on the petition cover all costs involved. Carried - unanimous

The fire department report was as follows:

  1. Chief Schultz reported that due to pending Federal Regulation changes, a ''Rapid Intervention Team" was needed on the department. Schultz requested approximately $1000 to cover needed equipment for this team.
  2. There were 4 fire runs the previous month. 
  3. Schultz reported that Ideal/Crosslake Lions had donated $15,000 to upgrade the current water tender truck and that a truck had been purchased.
  4. Chief Schultz requested that exhaust fans be installed in the bathrooms in the Townhall.
  5. Schultz requested that the department rent a live burn trailer for training, costing $500.
  6. The Clerk was asked to send a bill for $250 to the DNR regarding the fire on Long Farm Road
  7. There were no safety incidents.

Motion by Taylor to approve $1000 for RIT equipment. Carried- unanimous

Motion by Taylor to install exhaust fans in the bathrooms. Carried- unanimous

Motion by Steffen to approve the rental of a live burn trailer for department training. Carried - unanimous

The Transfer Station Report was as follows:

Steffen reported several changes at the Ideal Transfer Station including new signs regarding no scavenging and concrete dumping.
Steffen advised that a new gate is to be installed after the bids are received and reviewed. Also, the metal at the transfer station is to be baled shortly.

The clerk advised the Board that the Grant for voting equipment had been received and the Townships portion of the equipment is $2,200.

The clerk presented an estimate from Ken Stoltman of $2,000 to repair the Township entryway.

Motion by Taylor to accept the bid of $2,000 from Ken Stoltman to repair the entryway and make the pavilion wheelchair accessible. Carried - unanimous

Wortham contacted the Ideal/Crosslake Lions Club regarding moving the sign currently along Highway 16 to the Townhall. The Lions Club agreed to having the sign moved by Ideal Township.

Steffen informed the Board that three new signs at the Township boundaries would cost approximately $2,200.

Motion by Wortham to purchase three new signs at a cost of $2,200. Carried Wortham aye, Steffen aye, Taylor abstain.

Supervisor Steffen advised that he would be attending a meeting regarding the E911 signs on June 12, 2002.

There being no further Township business to transact, the meeting adjourned at 9:17 P.M.
