The meeting was called to order by Supervisor Wortham at 7:00 P.M. with the Pledge of Allegiance. All members were in attendance.
Motion by Brandt, seconded by Plein to accept the minutes of the January 14th, 2008 Board Meeting as presented. Carried - unanimous
Motion by Brandt, seconded by Plein to accept the Treasurers report for January, 2008, check #14620 through #14690, totaling $30,738.45. Carried - unanimous
Motion by Plein, seconded by Brandt to pay all bills presented for payment by the Clerk, check #14691 through check #14719, totaling $12,827.69. Carried - unanimous
There was nothing new for open forum.
The Road and Bridge report was as follows:
- Supervisor Brandt reported that Fawn Lake Road had been turned over to the county through a letter from the Township.
- Brandt presented the latest Culvert and Bridge inspection from the MN DOT.
- Brandt gave an update on the recent meetings with the developers of Boyds Lodge, Lands End, regarding the plat and road and trailway proposals.
- There were no safety incidents.
The Fire Department report was as follows:
- There was 1 emergency run the previous month.
- Chief Stoltman requested an account be opened at the firestore.com online.
- The department purchased a new copier, printer, fax machine at a cost of $350.
- A used 8 x 10 trailer will be purchased to replace the old 4-wheeler trailer with no additional cost to the department.
- Stoltman requested approval to purchase up to 4 sets of turnout gear at a cost of $1,400 each and a new pump for grass rig 18 at a cost of approximately $9,700.
- The department requested “No Parking” signs be put up by all dry hydrants and over head doors at station 2.
- There were no safety incidents.
Stoltman reported on a matching funds grant application for $2,000 to purchase Wildland turnout gear.
Motion by Plein, seconded by Brandt, to approve matching grant funds of $2,000 to purchase Wildland turnout gear. Carried - unanimous.
Tom Johnson from the Fire Department discussed the options to maximize the current facilities when the maintenance building is constructed in the next year. Johnson advised the board the department was planning on applying for a federal grant to help pay for the renovations.
Motion by Wortham, seconded by Brandt, to approve the purchase of up to 4 sets of turnout gear at a cost of $1,400 each and a new pump for grass rig 18 at a cost of $9,700. Carried - unanimous.
There was nothing new to report for Park and Recreation.
The Transfer Station report was as follows:
- Brandt presented a diagram of the new sign for the transfer station and requested the clerk submit a check for $900, half of the total cost to Sign Crafters.
Brandt reported that over 30 cords of wood had been delivered to Big Island last week during the coldest day of the year.
Brandt also reported on the progress of the new maintenance building. The property first needs to be rezoned to Rural Residential 5 before the permit could be submitted.
Lynn Scharenbroich made a presentation regarding a new project for the Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway and requested a donation from the township.
Motion by Wortham, seconded by Brandt, to donate $1,000 to the Byway to produce the new materials and pod cast. Carried - unanimous.
Motion by Brandt, seconded by Plein, to increase the mileage compensation from the current .485 to the federal rate of .505. Carried - unanimous.
The clerk announced the Annual Election and Annual Meeting scheduled for March 11th, 2008.
