Board Meeting February 2004

The meeting was called to order by Supervisor Wortham at 7:00 P.M. with the Pledge of Allegiance. Supervisor Steffen was not in attendance.

Motion by Brandt to accept the minutes of the January 5th, 2004 Board meeting as read. Carried - unanimous

Motion by Brandt to accept the Treasurers report for December, 2003. Carried -unanimous

Motion by Brandt to accept the Treasurers report for January, 2004. Carried - unanimous

Motion by Brandt to pay all February bills presented for payment by the clerk. Carried - unanimous

The Road and Bridge Report was as follows:

  1. Denny Rahm reported the L9000 truck needed the hydraulic pump replaced and several other repairs last month.
  2. The Townhall was painted last month by the Maintenance Department.
  3. There were no safety incidents.

Supervisor Wortham requested Rahm's input on what roads should be considered for improvement in 2004.

The Fire Department report was as follows:

  1. There were 4 fire calls the previous month.
  2. Chief Schultz reported the new E-911 maps were available and each Fire truck should have one.
  3. Schultz requested 8 to 10 Fire Fighters attend training in Duluth and Grand Rapids and two additional training classes to be held at Ideal.
  4. Schultz reported on a new applicant to the Fire Department, Chad Nelson.
  5. Mike Whistler successfully completed Fire Fighter I class.
  6. Schultz requested funds to purchase harnesses from another department at a cost of approximately $100 apiece.
  7. Schultz reported damage done to one of the garage doors was to be covered by the training company involved.
  8. There were no safety incidents.

Motion by Brandt to accept Chad Nelson to the Fire Department, to allow 8-10 Fire Fighters attend training classes and additional classes be held at Ideal and to purchases harnesses at a maximum cost of $500 total - Carried - unanimous

False alarms in the Township with no key holders was discussed. A suggestion was made to charge residents after the first false alarm and no key holder is available.

The north side substation was discussed. Chief Schultz reported on several pieces of land that were available and desirable as a location for the station.

There was nothing new to report on Park and Recreation.

The Transfer Station Report was as follows:

  1. Supervisor Brandt reported that Landecker and Associates gave an estimate of $800 to identify the property lines at the Transfer Station.
  2. Brandt reported he would be meeting with Doug Morris from Crow Wing County soon to discuss Hazardous Waste collection in the Township.

Supervisor Brandt advised that 30-40 cords of wood had been hauled to Big Island with the help of Crow Wing County Sentence to Serve and Big Island Volunteers.

Brandt reported on a recent legal training seminar he attended in St. Paul. Brandt advised the federal mileage reimbursement had been changed to .375 per mile in 2004. Motion by Brandt to change Ideal's mileage reimbursement to the federal rate of .375. Carried- unanimous

The clerk reported that two election judges had been selected from the qualified pool to serve during the Township election on March 9th, 2004.

The 2004 Budget and Audit meeting was discussed. March 5th, 2004 was selected with the time not yet determined due to a planned meeting with Crow Wing County Highway Department regarding Fawn Lake Road.

The clerk reminded the Board of the upcoming Township Election from 3 to 8 pm to be followed by the 2004 Annual Meeting at 8 pm.

There being no further Township business to transact, the meeting adjourned at 8:25 P.M.
