The meeting was called to order by Chairman Taylor at 7:00 P.M. with the Pledge
of Allegiance. All members were present.
Motion by Wortham to accept the minutes of the February 11th, 2002 Informational Hearing as read. Carried - unanimous
Motion by Steffen to accept the minutes of the February 11th, 2002 Board Meeting
as read. Carried - unanimous
Motion by Wortham to accept the minutes of the February 21st, 2002 Budget & Audit
Meeting as read. Carried - unanimous
Motion by Steffen to accept the minutes of the March 19th, 2002 Qualification Meeting as read. Carried - unanimous
Motion by Wortham to approve the treasurer's report for the month of February as presented. Carried - unanimous
Motion by Wortham to approve the treasurer's report for the month of March as presented. Carried - unanimous
Motion by Steffen to pay all March bills presented for payment by the clerk.

Motion by Wortham to pay all April bills presented for payment by the clerk. Carried - unanimous
Motion by Supervisor Steffen to appoint Bev Brine as the Deputy Clerk for Ideal Township. Carried - unanimous
A resident expressed his concern regarding erosion along Wabigonish Shore road. Supervisor Steffen and Maintenance Supervisor Bach agreed to make an on-site inspection of the location.
The road and bridge report was as follows:
- Jens Bach reported that due to new legislation, a salt/sand building might be required for the township in the near future.
- A letter from the Crow Wing County Highway Department regarding 2002 paving plans in the township was discussed.
- There have been no safety incidents.
The fire department report was as follows:
- Chief Schultz reported that the resident who agreed to pay for the majority of the hydrant on Butternut Point Road has concerns as to the location of the hydrant in regards to snowplowing. Chief Schultz will be meeting again with him in two weeks to discuss the location further .
- There were 2 fire runs the previous month.
- Chief Schultz will be attending a pre-construction meeting for the Fire Apparatus in Florida on April 24-26th.
- There have been no safety incidents.
- Chief Schultz requested that mileage be paid to fire fighters who drive to the quarterly Cuyuna Range meetings.
- Ken Stoltman gave three estimated for in-house maintenance on the fire trucks. The Board reviewed the estimates.
Motion by Wortham to approve the payment of mileage to fire fighters driving to Cuyuna Range meetings at the current federal rate of .365 cents per mile. Carried - unanimous
Motion by Steffen to contract with Foreman for fire truck maintenance. Carried - unanimous.
Chairman Taylor requested the fire department contact Ideal homeowners regarding driveway accessibility.
The Park and Recreation Report was as follows:
Gerry Brine of the Land Acquisition Committee, reported that a purchase offer had been prepared to be presented to the owner of 15 acres of land that is currently for sale along Highway 16.
Motion by Wortham to approve the purchase offer for 15 acres along Highway 16. Carried - unanimous
The Transfer Station Report was as follows:
Steffen reported that the dump would be open on Wednesdays and Saturdays beginning on April 17th.
Steffen also reported that construction of the new recycling building is to begin next month.
The clerk reported that the Township employee life insurance was increasing from
$12 per month to $16 per month on June 1, 2002. A brief discussion regarding the life insurance benefits followed.
Motion by Wortham to accept the life insurance increase from $12 to $16 per employee. Carried - unanimous
The clerk presented a letter from the Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway Association requesting that Ideal Township continue to help fund the Byway project as we have in the past.
There being no further Township business to transact, the meeting adjourned at 8:55 P.M.
