Board Meeting May 2001

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM by Chairman Taylor with the Pledge of Allegiance. All members were present.

Motion by Badger to accept the minutes of the April 9, 200 1 meeting as read. Carried - unanimous

Motion by Wortham to approve the April, 2001 treasurers report as presented. Carried - unanimous

Motion by Badger to pay all May bills presented for payment by the clerk. Carried - unanimous

Bids for summer, 2001 road construction were opened. Anderson Brothers and Tri-City Paving submitted bids of $115,863.42 and $152,136.00 respectively.

Motion by Wortham to accept the low bid of $115.863.42 submitted by Anderson Brothers. Carried - unanimous

The plugged culvert on Wabagoniss Shores Rd. was discussed with resident, Bob Olufs.
Fire Chief Schultz said he would attempt to clear the culvert on Wednesday, May 16.

UBC of Pequot Lakes submitted a bid to supply and install steel siding on the unsided portions of the town hall complex. The total for the job would be $14,900.00.

Motion by Badger to have UBC install siding on the town hall per their estimate. Carried-   unanimous

Ken Stoltman submitted a bid to shingle the old meeting hall portion of the town hall complex. The bid of $1,660.00 was for labor and material.

Motion by Taylor to have Stoltman reshingle the old townhall as per his bid and to remove the old chimney. Carried - unanimous

The supervisors reported that they had inspected South Point Rd on May 14, 2001. They believed a lot of the problems encountered on this road could have been resolved if tree cutting notification procedures had been followed. These procedures will be adhered to in the future.

Wortham made the following motion concerning South Point Rd.:

  1. A 20' paved surface will be constructed from Long Farm Td. To the culvert.
  2. A 19' paved surface will be constructed from the culvert to the cui de sac.
  3. Groom and seed the bank between the road and the Brun property.
  4. Plant 4 evergreens (2" diameter) at a location mutually acceptable to the Brun's and the Township as a screen from the road.
  5. Move the power poles to a location suitable to the Township staying within the ROW.

Carried - unanimous

The road and bridge report was as follows:

  1. There have been no safety incidents.
  2. Some property owners have expressed concern about the township acceptance of a road off Round Lake Rd.
  3. Ideal Township's .7 miles of West Shore Dr. will be reconstructed in 2003.  The shoulders, 4' on each side, will be used as bike paths.

   Badger made the following motion referencing future Township road acceptance: All existing roads platted prior to March, 1995 that the      Township is asked to take over will meet these requirements:

  1. 1. The driving surface must be brought up to Township specifications .
  2. A minimum of 33' (ROW) must be cleared of brush and trees prior to acceptance.

Carried - unanimous

The fire department report was as follows:

  1. Would like approval for a leave of absence for Ted Ebnet of up to 6 months .
  2. The department has accepted a new fireman, Tom Kinnan .
  3. There were 5 fire runs the previous month.
  4. A special truck meeting with the supervisors will be held June 21 at 7:00PM.
  5. There have been no safety incidents.

Motion by Badger to all Ted Ebnet a 6 month leave of absence. Carried - unanimous

The clerk was asked to have the playground equipment inspected for safety and/or repair.

Wortham reported that a person had been hired to assist at the transfer station. He also reported that the transfer station is now open Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday.

The clerk reminded the Board of the Board of Review to be held May 22.

A request from the North Crow Wing First Responders for a donation to help purchase a defibrillator to be kept at the Pequot school was read .

Motion by Badger to donate $700.00 from the First Responder fund. Carried - unanimous

Motion by Badger to set the date for the 2002 centennial celebration at the Ideal Park for August 23 and August 24, 2002.  

Carried - unanimous

There being no further township business to conduct, the meeting adjourned at 9:00 P.M.
