Board Meeting October 2002

The meeting was called to order by Chairman Taylor at 7:00 P.M. with the Pledge of Allegiance. All members were present.

Motion by Wortham to accept the minutes of the September 9th, 2002 Board meeting as read. Carried - unanimous

Motion by Steffen to approve the treasurer's report for the month of September as presented. Carried - unanimous

Motion by Wortham to pay all October bills presented for payment by the clerk. Carried - unanimous

A representative from Charter Communications gave a report and answered questions regarding expansion of cable service in Ideal Township.

Mr. Miller, an Ideal resident on Golf Estates Drive, had questions regarding the maintenance of his road.

Bruce Nick requested that the cul-de-sac off of West Clear Lake Drive be graded before winter. Mr. Nick also asked the Board if the Township planned on paving the West Clear Lake Drive extension. Supervisor Wortham advised Mr. Nick that it was on the schedule to be paved within the next few years.

The road and bridge report was as follows:

  1. Jens Bach reported that the L8000 plow truck was in for repairs for an oil leak.
  2. The stumps were removed from Northview Harbor Drive.
  3. Salt and sand would be hauled next week.
  4. There have been no safety incidents .
  5. Anderson Brothers has been contacted to do repairs to culvert and road damage on Forest Knolls Road and Clear Creek.

Motion by Steffen to have Anderson Brothers repair the culvert and road along Forest Knolls Road at a cost of $9,365.43. Carried - unanimous .

Motion by Wortham to have Anderson Brothers bring in class 5, install riprap and a 60-foot guardrail at a cost of $7,580.38. Carried - unanimous.

The Fire Department Report was as follows:

  1. Chief Schultz presented a bill from Foreman Truck Service for truck maintenance .
  2. Schultz requested Stress Test for 4 fire fighters.
  3. There were 3 fire runs the previous month.
  4. The Ideal Fire Department Christmas party was scheduled for Dec. 14th.
  5. Schultz requested that Officer Tom Johnson attend a class in Minneapolis at a cost of $280.
  6. There were no safety incidents.
  7. Schultz advised the Board that the new fire truck was at the Chiefs Conference in St. Cloud and would be arriving soon. A three day class will be held for the fire fighters when the new truck arrives.
  8. The old fire truck has been sold to Pequot Lakes for $8000.

Motion by Wortham to send Tom Johnson to attend the Officers class in Minneapolis. Carried - unanimous

Motion by Wortham to have up to 4 fire fighters go in for stress tests this year. Carried-unanimous

Supervisor Steffen reported to the Board that Gerry Brine was preparing documents to be presented regarding additional land acquisition.

The Transfer Station Report was as follows:

  1. Steffen reported that the building at the transfer station was almost complete .
  2. Blood Brothers will be adjusted the entrance gate to the transfer station.
  3. New signs regarding illegal dumping and scavenging have arrived will be installed soon.

The clerk advised the Board that the group medical coverage would be increasing approximately 9% this year.

The clerk has selected qualified election judges for the upcoming election.

Chairman Taylor resigned his position with the Township effective 12/31/02 . A replacement has not yet been named.

Motion by Wortham to accept Jerry Taylor's resignation. Carried - unanimous
Supervisor Steffen advised the Board of a Comprehensive Plan Meeting scheduled in Brainerd on October 19 th. Steffen requested the clerk obtain the meeting minutes for review.

There being no further Township business to transact, the meeting adjourned at 8:26 P.M.
