The meeting was called to order by Supervisor Wortham at 7:00 P.M. with the Pledge of Allegiance. Supervisor Steffen was not in attendance.
Motion by Brandt to accept the minutes of the January 2nd, 2003 Board meeting as read. Carried - unanimous
Motion by Brandt to approve the treasurer's report for the month of January as presented. Carried - unanimous
Motion by Wortham to pay all February bills presented for payment by the clerk .
Carried - unanimous
Ed Larson and Roger Landers from Crow Wing County were in attendance to discuss the possibility of updating Ideal Townships Land Use plan to coincide with the Counties Comprehensive Plan, which is currently in the process of being updated. Larson and Landers answered questions from the Board and from Ideal residents. A suggestion was made to form a volunteer committee of Ideal residents to proceed with the process. Supervisor Wortham stated that the proposal from Region 5 had not yet been reviewed and a final decision was still pending.
The road and bridge report was as follows:
- Jens Bach reported that the 9000 was taken to Mills and needed repairs to the power steering.
- Bach advised the Board that additional salt and sand was needed and had been picked up.
- Bach suggested we advertise for road work bids earlier this year to hopefully get an earlier construction date.
- Supervisor Wortham reported on the survey completed by Landecker regarding Wild Acres Road.
- There have been no safety incidents.
Motion by Brandt to advertise for 2003 road construction in March, with the bid deadline being prior to the April 14th , 2003 meeting. Carried- unanimous.
The Fire Department Report was as follows:
- Chief Schultz requested 6 Fire Fighters attend fire training school in Duluth and 2 Fire Fighters in Mankato at a cost of approximately $2500 total.
- There were 3 fire runs the previous month.
- Schultz requested 16 new helmet lights at a cost of $22 each.
- Fire Fighter Ted Ebnet was called to active duty for an undetermined amount of time.
- There were no safety incidents.
- Chief Schultz requested the Board reinstate Robbie Saccoman to the Fire Department effective March sth, 2003, with limitations and after a medical release is received from his physician.
Motion by Brandt to send 6 Fire Fighters to school in Duluth and 2 Fire Fighters to Mankato at a cost of $2500. Carried - unanimous.
Motion by Brandt to reinstate Robbie Saccoman to the Ideal Department effective March 5th, 2003, with limitations and contingent on the Township receiving a medical release from his physician prior to that date. Carried- unanimous.
There was nothing new to report regarding the Transfer Station and Park and Recreation.
The clerk reported that two election judges had been selected from the qualified pool to conduct the upcoming Township election on March 11th, 2003.
The clerk advised the Board that the Townships Liability insurance coverage was being discontinued with the present provider effective September 1, 2003. The insurance program is being self-insured under the newly established Minnesota Association of Townships Insurance and Bond Trust.
Motion by Wortham to adopt the Resolution to Participate in the Minnesota Association of Townships Insurance and Bond Trust and to apply for participation in the Trust's public officials' liability insurance program. Carried unanimous.
There being no further Township business to transact, the meeting adjourned at 9:25 P.M.
