The clerk called the meeting to order at 8:00 P.M. with the Pledge of Allegiance. There were 22 residents in attendance.
Nominations were called for moderator of the 2006 Township meeting. Motion by Linda Ulland, second by Ron Schultz to name Bill Wortham moderator. Wortham was named moderator by acclimation.
Motion by Gene Gustafson, second by Lynn Scharenbroich, to accept the minutes of the 2005 Annual Meeting as presented. Carried
The Township banking policies were discussed. Motion by Ron Schultz, second by John Plein, to use any or all banking facilities in the Pequot Lakes, Crosslake, and Pine River areas. Carried
Motion by John Plein, second by Bruce Schultz, to use the Country Echo of Pequot Lakes as the primary publication for the Township. Additionally, the Pine River Journal should be used when announcing special meetings and elections. Carried
The date and time for the 2007 Annual Meeting and election was set. Motion by Jim Brandt, second by Ron Schultz, to hold the Annual Election between the hours of 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm with the Annual Meeting to begin at 8:00 pm. All will take place at the Ideal Town Hall on March 13th, 2007. Carried
Moderator Wortham requested the results of the Ideal Township Annual Election. Following are the results presented by the Election Judges:

Based on the election results, Jim Brandt was declared winner of the 3-year supervisor’s position.
Jim Brandt gave the Road and Bridge update.
- In 2005, Ideal resurface 1.9 miles of Old Whiskey Road. It was widened to 2 feet in some areas and some hazards were removed. A short area at the start of Forest Knolls was also resurfaced.
- A sweeper for our John Deere tractor was purchased for $4,872.
- The new Hidden Creek development road was upgraded to prevent further erosion and
- alleviate concerns from the MPCA. Drainage problem on Father Foley Road was repaired.
- Completed school bus turnaround on Winnamakee Shores Road.
- In 2006, a new snowplow truck will be purchased to be delivered this fall. This truck will
- Replace our 1989 L9000 Ford snowplow.
- A guardrail will be installed this spring on Forest Knolls Road where Clear Creek crosses.
- There were no safety incidents.
Chief Bruce Schultz gave a Power Point presentation regarding the Ideal Fire Department.

Chief Engineer Doug Duvall - The Department is currently at 27 Firefighters, 9 of which will be responding out of Station 2.
- The Department had 24 emergency runs in 2005.
- A new bottle containment system was installed on the rescue van. This is used to fill SCBA bottles. The Ideal Community Service Organization helped with this purchase.
- A new grass rig was put in service last year with help from the Crosslake-Ideal Lions Club.
- The North-Side substation on Highway 1 has been completed and is currently being inspected to improve the ISO rating for north side residence.
- A new pumper was purchased for the North-Side substation.
Jim Brandt reported on the Ideal Transfer Station and Recycling Center. The center collected 51,540 LBS. of recyclable materials in 2005, which was up 34% from 2004. For the first time in many years, the Transfer Station fund showed a slight profit. Improvements to the Transfer Station in 2005 included new signage to discourage trespassing and increase user safety, upgraded driving surface with class 5 and improved traffic flow, and stopping erosion.
John Plein gave a report on the Buildings and Park and Recreation Area. An expansion of the Ideal Park Playground has been completed and ready for the new swing set to be installed this spring. Improvements to the Town Hall included, new carpeting, high-speed internet connection, entry dormers on the west-side, a township map display and refurbishment of the restrooms. Outside the hall, the ball field parking area has been spruced up, a split-rail fence added and landscaping plans for the area have been started.
Plein reported the Board has also taken initiative to improve public communication starting with an update of the township website, redesigned to provide faster and easier access to information. In addition, the board established the Ideal Newsletter to be sent to all Ideal Township property owners just prior to the Annual Meeting each year.
Wortham gave a brief summary of the Townships accomplishments in 2005.
The 2007 budget proposal was discussed. The proposed budget for 2007 was $650,000. Several residents questioned whether the amount was adequate to fund upcoming expenses. Supervisor Wortham explained some of the upcoming expenses and fund breakdown of the budget. Motion by Ron Schultz, second by Dick Wilske, to set the 2007 Ideal Township Budget at $650,000. Carried
The salary of the Ideal Township Board was discussed. All three supervisors agreed the current salary was sufficient. Motion by Bruce Schultz, second by Ron Schultz to keep the meeting salaries for the supervisors at $125 per meeting. Carried
Lynn Scharenbroich gave an update on the Paul Bunyan Scenic By-way.
David Moe requested information on the Crow Wing County Sanitary Sewer District. Supervisor Brandt reported on the townships progress with the county.
A resident commented on the damage being done to township roads by heavy equipment being unloaded on the roads. The Board agreed to educate contractors and pursue compensation from those doing the damage.
