The clerk called the meeting to order at 8:00 P.M. with the Pledge of Allegiance. There were 20 residents in attendance.
Nominations were called for moderator of the 2007 Township meeting. Motion by Ron Schultz, seconded by John Plein to name Bill Wortham moderator. Wortham was named moderator by acclimation.
Motion by Jim Brandt, seconded by Linda Ulland, to accept the minutes of the 2006 Annual Meeting as presented. Carried
Moderator Wortham requested the results of the Ideal Township Annual election. Following are the results presented by the Election Judges:
Supervisor , 3-year term Bill Wortham 24 votes
Ron Schultz 1 vote
Based on the election results, Bill Wortham was declared winner of the 3-year supervisors position.
The Township banking policies were discussed. Motion by Ron Schultz, seconded by Lynn Scharenbroich, to use any or all banking facilities in the Pequot Lakes, Crosslake and Pine River areas. Carried
Motion by Ken Stoltman, seconded by John Plein, to use the Country Echo of Pequot Lakes as the primary publication for the Township. Additionally, the Pine River Journal should be used when announcing special meetings and elections. Carried
Several residents requested legal notices also be published in the Northland Press. The clerk agreed to check on the additional cost.
A discussion took place regarding the possibility of moving the Township Election to November. The clerk explained to the attendees the pros and cons of both options.
The date and time for the 2008 Annual Meeting and Election was set. Motion by Ron Schultz, seconded by Lynn Scharenbroich, to hold the Annual Election between the hours of 5 pm and 8 pm with the Annual Meeting to begin at 8 pm. All will take place at the Ideal Town Hall on March 11th, 2008. Carried
Jim Brandt gave the Road and Bridge update.
- In 2006, Ideal resurfaced .7 miles of West Shore Drive and added a bike/walking path.
- The culvert was replaced on Wabigoniss Shores Road and the road improved.
- A guard rail was installed on the bridge over Clear Creek on Forest Knolls road.
- Repaired and overlaid an area on Twin Ponds Road.
- Repaired water erosion problems at the end of Winnamakee Shores Road and paved the school bus turn around.
- Culverts were cleaned out by the Maintenance Department on Long Farm Road.
- Purchased a new 2007 International 7400 series plow truck at a cost of $89,996.
- Purchased a new John Deere lawn tractor at a cost of $5,990.
- There were no safety incidents.

Safety Officer Mike Clasen - The Department had 28 emergency runs in 2006.
- The Department is currently at 28 fire fighters and 3 dispatchers.
- Three fire fighters and one dispatcher retired in 2006 and the Department added four new fire fighters.
- A new rescue trailer and a 4-wheeler with a trailer was purchased through donations.
- The Department took over fire protection for Timothy Township.
Jim Brandt reported on the Ideal Transfer Station and Recycling Center. The center collected 59,460 Lbs. of recyclable materials in 2006, which was up 15% from 2005. Improvements made in 2006 included setting roll-off dumpsters in a concrete sub-grade enclosure and overall organization of site disposal areas. Improvements scheduled for the transfer station in 2007 include new signage, rebuilding the small dumpsters and building an area to accommodate the smaller roll-offs.
Supervisor John Plein reported on the interpretive panels for the Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway and improvements on the township website.
Ron Schultz, member of the Long Range Planning Committee, gave an update on the committees meetings and some concerns of the committee.
The 2008 budget proposal was discussed. The proposed budget for 2008 was $750,000. Supervisor Wortham explained some of the upcoming expenses the Township expected for 2008.
Motion by Linda Ulland, seconded by Lynn Scharenbroich, to set the 2008 Ideal Township Budget at $750.000. Carried
The salary of the Ideal Township Board was discussed. All three supervisors agreed the current salary was sufficient. Motion by Ron Schultz, seconded by Linda Ulland to keep the meeting salaries for the supervisors at $125 per meeting. Carried
Lynn Scharenbroich and Linda Ulland gave an update on the Paul Bunyan Scenic By-way.
The Townships procedure for posting meeting agendas was discussed. Several residents expressed a desire to have more specific items be listed on the agenda. The clerk advised the residents that most agendas were similar each month with any differentiating items being brought up during open forum with the Board having no information provided prior to the actual meeting.
Motion by Ron Schultz, seconded by Jim Brandt, to adjourn, as there was no further business to discuss. Carried
