Board Meeting February 2009

The meeting was called to order by Supervisor Brandt at 7:00 P.M. with the Pledge of Allegiance. Supervisor Wortham was not in attendance.

Motion by Brandt, seconded by Plein to accept the minutes of the January 6th, 2009 Board Meeting as read. Carried - unanimous

Motion by Brandt, seconded by Plein to accept the Treasurers report for January, 2009, check #15400 through #15454, totaling $30,970.14. Carried - unanimous

Motion by Plein, seconded by Brandt to pay all bills presented for payment by the Clerk, check #15455 through check #15502, totaling $14,522.39. Carried - unanimous

Paul Thiede was present to review several county issues. Thiede gave an update on the Sewer Management District, the budget shortfall and the repeal of the county wide dog ordinance.

The Road and Bridge report was as follows:

  1. Supervisor Brandt reported new edges have been put on the plow trucks.
  2. Brandt stated he recently attended a meeting with Breezy Point and the county regarding Buschmann Road.
  3. There were no safety incidents.

Brandt reported 30 cords of wood were hauled to Big Island with the help of many volunteers and Crow Wing County Sentence to Serve.

The Fire Department report was as follows:

  1. There was 1 emergency run the previous month.
  2. 4 firefighters recently completed fire fighter I certification.
  3. A new generator has been ordered for the rescue van.
  4. The department received a donation of weight machine from John and Jean Giesler.
  5. A new burn agreement was drafted.
  6. The owners of Black Pine Beach have applied for a grant for the Fire Department through their insurance company.
  7. Scott Peterson resigned from the department.
  8. Two firefighters have signed up for FFII.
  9. There were no safety incidents.

There was nothing new to report for Park and Recreation.

The Transfer Station Report was as follows:

  1. Supervisor Plein is printing the new disposal guide for the customers of the transfer station.
  2. The brush pile has been burned.

A discussion regarding the recent request from the Ebnets to detach from Breezy Point and attach to Ideal Township was discussed. Supervisor Brandt agreed to follow up on this issue.

The clerk requested family dental and medical coverage beginning in April. The board unanimously agreed to the request.

The clerk reported the 2008 financial audit had been completed.

The board discussed the financing of the new fire truck through general obligation certificates.

Motion by Plein, seconded by Brandt for the following resolution accepting proposal on sale of $270,000 general obligation certificates of indebtedness of 2009, providing for their issuance, and levying a tax for the payment thereof. Carried - unanimous.

The board discussed the Anderson Island rezoning request once again. The Board unanimously agreed to not support the request due to the inability to access the island to provide Health and Welfare and fire protection to the area in question.

The board reviewed two donation requests and agreed to not donate at this time.

There being no further business to transact, the meeting adjourned at 8:20 pm.
