The clerk called the meeting to order at 8:00 P.M. with the Pledge of Allegiance. There were 23 residents in attendance.
Nominations were called for moderator of the 2009 Township meeting. Motion by Ken Stoltman, seconded by John Plein to name Bill Wortham moderator. Wortham was named moderator by acclimation.
Motion by Wayne Holtmeier, seconded by Jim Brandt, to accept the minutes of the 2008 Annual Meeting as presented. Carried
Moderator Wortham requested the results of the Ideal Township Annual election. Following are the results presented by the Election Judges: Supervisor , 3-year term Jim Brandt 25 votes
Based on the election results, Jim Brandt was declared winner of the 3-year supervisors position.
The Township banking policies were discussed. Motion by Ken Stoltman, seconded by Jim Brandt, to use any or all banking facilities in the Pequot Lakes, Crosslake and Pine River areas. Carried
Paul Boblett gave pricing information for legal notices in the Northland Press. A discussion regarding the coverage area took place. Motion by Jim Brandt, seconded by Ryan Schultz, to use the Lakes Country Echo of Pequot Lakes as the primary publication for the Township. Additionally, the Pine River Journal should be used when announcing special meetings and elections. Carried
The date and time for the 2010 Annual Meeting and Election was set. Motion by Jim Brandt, seconded by Ryan Schultz, to hold the Annual Election between the hours of 5 pm and 8 pm with the Annual Meeting to begin at 8 pm. All will take place at the Ideal Town Hall on March 9th, 2010. Carried
Jim Brandt gave the Road and Bridge update.
- In 2008, Ideal resurfaced .75 miles of Forest Knolls Road, sections of West Clear Lake and Winnamakee Shores and did crack sealing on Butternut Point, Old Hwy 16, Kimble Lodge Road, Timber Lane, Old Whiskey and West Shore Drive.
- Got permission from a home owner to establish a turn around at the end of Butternut Point Road.
- Made repairs on several roads with hot and cold mix.
- Trimmed trees on several miles of road right of way and treated some noxious weeds.
- The township took over maintenance of .7 miles of Clear Blue Lane.
- Removed a high hedge at an intersection and requested residents remove landscaping along the road Right of way for safety reasons.
- There were no safety incidents.
Supervisor Brandt gave an overview of the completed Maintenance Building.

Safety Officer Jeff Holubar - The Department had 26 emergency runs in 2008.
- The Department is currently at 30 active fire fighters.
- One fire fighter resigned from the department, one member passed away and 3 new members joined the department in 2008.
- A new Custom Fire Manufactured pumper/tender will be delivered this summer.
- The department received a FEMA grant in the amount of $33,000 for communications.
- The department is in the process of moving their equipment into the old maintenance area.
- A grant for $10,000 was submitted by the Scharenbroichs of Black Pine Beach Resort for the department.
- There were no safety incidents.
John Plein reported on the Ideal Transfer Station and Recycling Center. The center collected 68,160 Lbs. of recyclable materials in 2008, which was up 11% from 2007. A new disposal guide was developed to provide helpful information and policies. Improvements made in 2008 included new signage, corrugated cardboard recycling program and steps were taken to reduce loitering and scrapping at the station.
Supervisor John Plein reported on the goals for the Parks Department in 2009 and beyond which included: adding/upgrading equipment at the playground, planting more trees along the backside of the ball field and playground, complete raised planter for south corner, cooperating with the Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway to support installation of “Paul Bunyan’s Footprint”, increase safety awareness on Butternut Point Road and begin expansion of the sprinkler system for the ball field.
Supervisor Wortham reported on the 4 meetings of the Annexation/Incorporation Committee. The findings so far have supported Ideal remaining a township but exploring ways to protect itself from Annexation from neighboring municipalities.
The 2010 budget proposal was discussed. The proposed budget for 2010 was $820,000. Supervisor Wortham explained some of the upcoming expenses the Township expected for 2010.
Motion by Dave Johnson, seconded by Ryan Schultz, to set the 2010 Ideal Township Budget at $820,000. Carried
The salary of the Ideal Township Board was discussed. The meeting rate and hourly were adjusted last year to $150 for meetings and the hourly rate of $17.50.
Motion by Ryan Schultz, seconded by Mike Clasen to leave the supervisors salary at there current rate. Carried
Supervisor Brandt gave an explanation of the detachment procedure and where the recent application for detachment from Breezy Point to Ideal Township by the Ebnet was at.
Motion by Jim Brandt, seconded by Ken Stoltman, to adjourn, as there was no further business to discuss. Carried
