The meeting was called to order by Supervisor Wortham at 7:00 P.M. with the Pledge of Allegiance. All members were in attendance.
Motion by Brandt, seconded by Plein to accept the minutes of the May 11th, 2009 Board Meeting as read. Carried - unanimous
Motion by Brandt, seconded by Plein to accept the Treasurers report for May, 2009, check #15556 through #15723, totaling $123,969.38. Carried - unanimous
Motion by Plein, seconded by Brandt to pay all bills presented for payment by the Clerk, check #15724 through check #15759, totaling $27,347.52. Carried - unanimous
Dale Orred requested contact information regarding the cellular tower on Highway 134. Supervisor Brandt agreed to pass on the information he had available.
Dave Johnson requested a "No Parking" sign be placed at the Cul-de-sac at the end of Winnamakee Shores as people were using it for parking and large vehicles could no longer turn around.
The townships policy regarding the borrowing of tables and chairs was discussed. The clerk agreed to write up a policy sheet to be given to individuals whenever tables and chairs were removed from the town hall.
The Road and Bridge report was as follows:
- Brandt reported the maintenance department was working on the landscaping around the maintenance building.
- An open house was scheduled for the new maintenance building and fire department for July 11th, from 10 am to noon.
- Brandt was pursuing the moisture issue in the maintenance building, with a possible solution being an air exchange system.
- A new electrical receptacle needed to be installed to use the pressure washer.
- The maintenance department were patching pot holes around the township.
- Brandt completed the road review and advised the board that advertising for bids would be done over the next two weeks and bids would be opened on July 2 at 2pm at the town hall for road construction and crack sealing.
- There were no safety incidents.
The Fire Department report was as follows:
- There were 6 emergency runs the previous month.
- Chief Clasen reported that Lambert Water Wells would be working on the Boyd Lodge Hydrant.
- The Grant committee and the officers of the fire department are working on the communication grant received.
- Peggy Vevea requested a six month leave of absence from the department.
- The Crow Wing Emergency Management Systems, Crow Wing County Law enforcement and the Crow Wing County Fire Chiefs Association are supporting the upgrade of the 800 Mega hertz radio systems.
- A group of officers toured the new Catholic Church in Crosslake for preplanning I the even of an emergency.
- The Grant Committee is looking into a new federal grant that covers the upgrade to the fire hall. The deadline for the grant is in five weeks.
- The fire boat lift and dock are in and operational.
- There were no safety incidents.
Motion by Wortham, seconded by Brandt, to approve a six month leave of absence for Peggy Vevea from the Fire Department. Carried - unanimous.
The Park and Recreation report was as follows:
- Supervisor Plein suggested the new pressure washer be used to clean the outdoor pavilion ceiling.
- The Paul Bunyan footprints have been poured at the park and a sign will be put up soon.
- "No pets in playground area" and "All pets must be on leash" signs were being ordered for the park area.
The Transfer Station report was as follow:
- An annual contract was signed for a porta potty at the station for a fee of $75 per month with Fyles.
- Plein stated new recycling signs were being order along with a speed limit sign.
The board reviewed a resolution request from Charter Communications. Charter requested the board pass a resolution supporting the Chapter 11 restructuring of the company.
Motion by Brandt, seconded by Plein, to pass a resolution to support Charter Communications efforts for financial restructuring. Carried - unanimous
Brandt reported on the recent ROPE study report, the upcoming storm water meeting on June 10th and the progress with the Big Island erosion project.
Brandt reported the Ebnet detachment hearing will be scheduled soon with an Administrative Law Judge.
Brandt advised the board that both Tip Top Resort and Driftwood resort were up for sale but had not yet been sold. Both sellers indicated the desire to have the properties turned into residential parcels with single family homes.
There being no further business to transact, the meeting adjourned at 8:18 pm.
