The meeting was called to order by Supervisor Brandt at 7:00 P.M. with the Pledge of Allegiance. Supervisor Wortham was not in attendance.
Motion by Plein, seconded by Brandt to accept the minutes of the January 11th, 2010 Board Meeting and the February 3rd Budget meeting as read, with the addition of “the 85 foot variance was for the minimum lake lot size” regarding the Shores Financial rezoning request. Carried - unanimous
Motion by Plein, seconded by Brandt to accept the Treasurers report for January, 2010, check #16164 through #16214, totaling $134,620.89. Carried - unanimous
Motion by Plein, seconded by Brandt to pay all bills presented for payment by the Clerk, check #16215 through check #16250, totaling $18,364.92 Carried - unanimous
Dave Nelson addressed the board regarding the possibility of the current attendant at the Transfer Station retiring and he felt that if this did occur, the replacement should not be a picker. The board said they would consider Mr. Nelsons recommendation if a new attendant should be needed.
Ideal resident Vic Kreuziger questioned the proposed 2011 budget. The proposal was to hold the 2011 budget the same as the 2010 budget of $820,000. Mr. Kreuziger questioned the Fire Departments budget versus other townships in the state. The board discussed the lowering of the ISO rating in the township due to the efforts, training and equipment the fire department has obtained over the years. In addition, the benefits property owners in the township were seeing in their insurance rates because of the fire departments was addressed. Brandt presented figures recently obtained from the Crow Wing County Auditor regarding the townships taxes based on the levy.
Resident Dave Johnson requested the boards approval to pursue the possibility of further recycling of plastics and bags at the Transfer Station. The board agreed and thanked Mr. Johnson for volunteering his time towards this effort.
The Road and Bridge report was as follows:
- Supervisor Brandt reported the maintenance department has been busy plowing and scraping the roads.
- The Sentence to Serve group and many volunteers were planning to haul wood to Big Island this week.
- The shop in the maintenance building was power washed last month.
- The maintenance crew has been clearing up overhanging trees along the road right of way and repaired the sink the men‘s restroom.
- Another request was made for the township to pave Storage Park Road. As in the past, the board stated the paving was the responsibility of the owners and the township would then consider taking over the maintenance of the road.
- There were no safety incidents.
Brandt addressed the recent administrative law judges decision regarding the Ebnet detachment petition. As of February 15th, 2010, the Ebnet property would become part of Ideal Township and we will then become responsible for the maintenance of Wild Acres Road.
Brandt was recently in contact with John Bowen, the Emergency Management Director for Crow Wing County, regarding warning sirens for the township. A federal grant request has been submitted to obtain weather warning sirens for the area.
The Fire Department report was as follows:
- There were 2 emergency runs the previous month.
- Assistant Chief Stoltman reported 5 Fire Fighters were attending a Fire Apparatus Operator class and 2 would be attending training in Duluth.
- Stoltman has requested ISO rating paperwork to begin pursuing lowering the ISO rating at Station 2 this spring.
- Last months training was confined space awareness.
- There were no safety incidents.
There was nothing new to report for Park and Recreation.
The Transfer Station report was as follows:
- Supervisor Plein reported the new receipt logs were in use at the Transfer Station and 500 new disposal guides have been printed for the 2010 season.
Supervisor Plein presented a draft of the township newsletter for review by the board before printing.
There being no further business to transact, the meeting adjourned at 8:10pm.
