The Meeting was called to order by Supervisor Brandt at 7:00 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance. All members were in attendance.
Motion by Plein, seconded by Wortham to accept the minutes of the February 14th, 2011 Board Meeting as presented. Carried – unanimous
Motion by Wortham, seconded by Plein to accept the Treasurers report for February, 2011, check #16955 through check #17003, totaling $52,478.53 Carried – unanimous
Motion by Plein, seconded by Wortham to pay all bills presented for payment by the Clerk, check #17004 through check #17032, totaling $22,195.60 Carried – unanimous.
Vic Kreuziger questioned the value of the membership to the Crow Wing County Association of Townships. Supervisor Brandt explained the legal advice the township receives along with meetings and training seminars that are very useful to the board and clerk.
The Road and Bridge report was as follows:
- Supervisor Brandt reported on snowplowing and sanding efforts in the township.
- Brandt reported the additional signage at the end of Wabigoniss Shores would be installed in the spring.
- Crow Wing Power planned to update the electric to underground on Nelson Rd.
- There were no safety incidents.
The Fire Department report was as follows:
- There were 3 emergency runs the previous month.
- Last months drill was on Hybrids and airbags.
- 7 Fire Fighters were starting 1st responder training this month.
- ISO testing information was sent to Chicago for review and a decision should occur sometime in April.
- Phone repairs are still needed at Station 2.
- Chief Clasen agreed to submit a budget proposal for 2012 and voiced his concern regarding upcoming expenses.
- There were no safety incidents.
There was nothing new to report for Park and Recreation.
There was nothing new to report for the Transfer Station.
Supervisor Brandt reported the Baliessis variance requests were granted by the County.
Supervisor Brandt reported on the recent meetings held for the county land use ordinance. Vic Kreuziger questioned who was invited to the general discussions. Brandt explained the meeting times and locations were public and the meeting could be attended by anyone interested.
The clerk reported the township election is scheduled for Tuesday, March 8th from 5pm to 8pm with the Annual meeting to follow.
Additionally, Chief Clasen and other members in attendance voiced concern regarding holding the budget steady for three consecutive years. A long discussion regarding upcoming expenses and the present economy took place.
There being no further business to transact, the meeting adjourned at 8:33 pm.
