Ideal Township

Crow Wing County - Minnesota

Special Meeting December 20 2019

Friday, December 20, 2019 - 11:30am
Minutes Status:

The meeting was called to order at 11:30 am.  Supervisors Peterson, Bilek & Ommen and Clerk Plein & Deputy Royce were in attendance. Staff members Rahm, Hoefs, Fields, and Gens were also present.

Peterson welcomed all township employees and conveyed the Board’s appreciation for their dedication and hard work over the year.

Chairman Peterson presented a review of the year’s projects including new contracts with a hauler for the Transfer Station, and the roof replacement at the Town Hall. Looking forward over next couple years, the Township will be planning for a new plow truck, a new tanker for Fire Station 2, and working on adopting new ordinances regulating usage of road right of ways. Peterson felt the Township is operating well and is a good position both in terms of finances and having good staff. He asked everyone how things are going for them and what they think could be improved.

Peterson announced wage rate increases effective January 1, 2020 that were approved at the December Board Meeting.

Peterson reported on a cooperative agreement regarding planning for the Wild Acres-Nelson-Buschmann Roads improvements. Resolution 2019-09 sets the Township’s approximate portion of the total project frontage, expresses the belief that Crow Wing County is best suited to be the road authority in this corridor, and requests that Crow Wing County Highways attend a joint meeting of the group representing Ideal & Jenkins Townships, and the Cities of Pequot Lakes & Breezy Point. Planning for the corridor is to also include Akerson Road and Ranchette Drive due to their use as connector roads in the corridor between county state-aid roads 16 & 11 and Highway 371. A meeting of the group is planned for January. Motion by Peterson, second by Ommen to adopt Resolution 2019-09 as presented and to continue cooperating in the project planning. Carried unanimously.

A discussion took place regarding the proposed SnoPros building lease agreement. A draft agreement document was presented that had been prepared by counsel. Provisions of the document were reviewed and discussed. Peterson will work with the Clerk to develop a finished agreement with the SnoPros group.

The Board agreed to schedule a Special Meeting for January 6 at 1 pm. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss planning for the 2020 budget & 2021 levy, to review steps regarding the Feltmann cartway petition, and to discuss management goals for 2020.

There being no further business to conduct, the meeting adjourned at 1:30 p.m.
