Charter Franchise Fee Notice to Residents

NOTICE TO TOWNSHIP RESIDENTS

Ideal Township signed a franchise fee agreement with Charter which calls for a 5% fee on subscribers bills paid to the Township.  The money is earmarked for the Township to partner with broadband providers to entice them to improve service in our area.  This is a common practice and has worked well in the majority of situations.

However, we have had comments from Charter subscribers that the fee is more than 5% of their bill.  After some discussion with Charter, we have discovered that the agreement we signed is for 5% of revenue attributed to each subscriber.  As Charter has revenue from advertising, sales, etc, there is more revenue per subscriber than just shown on your bill for services.  We asked Charter if it would be better to change the agreement to be 5% of the subscriber bill and they can do that, but about 90% of their agreements are the same as our current agreement.

After discussion, the board decided not to change the agreement.  We also decided to post this notice on our website so that our residents are informed of this seeming anomaly.

If you have questions or concerns with either Charter or TDS, please contact Ron Ommen, the Supervisor who deals with this, his phone number is 307-630-1068.  He would be happy to discuss this with you.
