There was nothing new for open forum.
The Road and Bridge report was as follows:
- Supervisor Brandt reported the end of Butternut Point Road was cleaned up to make an area to push snow in the winter and he was also working on getting a legal agreement together to obtain a small portion of land from two land owners at the end to make a turn around possible.
- Anderson Brothers removed the ditching on Forest Knolls Road at the townships request as it proposed a safety hazard.
- The transition between Ruttger Road and Highway 16 was smoothed out by the county.
- Brandt presented a traffic count survey recently conducted on Silver Peak Road.
- The walk through on the maintenance building has been completed and the final payment to KC Companies of $11,117.50 will be sent at the end of the week.
- The board agreed to purchase an air compressor and battery charger for the maintenance building.
- Salt has been ordered for the winter season and sand prices were being compared.
- There were no safety incidents.
Dale Orred commented on the deteriorating condition of a portion of County Road 134. Supervisor Brandt agreed to contact the county and inquire as to when a repair was scheduled for this area.
The Fire Department report was as follows:
- There were 2 emergency runs the previous month.
- Chief Ron Schultz advised the board that damage had been done to the roof over the fire hall by vandals and was in need of repair.
- Fire truck bids were scheduled to be opened on Thursday, October 16th at 3pm.
- Schultz requested the fire department have the alarm system code for the maintenance building should any equipment be needed.
- There were no safety incidents.
Schultz advised the board that a furnace in the fire hall had been red tagged by Xcel. An estimate received from Arctic Air of $1,200 would cover removal of the furnace and additional duct work off of an existing furnace in the hall as a replacement.
Motion by Wortham, seconded by Brandt to have Arctic Air remove the furnace and extend the duct work at an approximate cost of $1,2000. Carried - unanimous
Chief Schultz gave an update on a home on Long Farm Road that was a health and safety hazard.
There was nothing new to report for Park and Recreation.
The Transfer Station Report was as follows:
- Supervisor Plein reported the county has removed all hazardous waste and electronics from the site and a sign stating the collection of these materials is suspended until the spring has been placed on the building.
- Supervisor Brandt is checking with the county on getting two recycling bins for the park and town hall.
Supervisor Plein followed up on a request to have the annual newsletter sent quarterly from the September meeting. The approximate cost of the annual mailing was $1,100. The board agreed to continue with the newsletter annually as the township website provided updated minutes and additional news information on a monthly basis.
Brandt reported on the recent developments regarding the Army Corps. Of Engineers plan to change the dropping of the water levels on the Whitefish Chain. The township board, along with several residents in attendance agreed that beginning the lake draw down in July versus the current September date would make navigation difficult if not impossible in many areas on the chain of lakes and hurt property values. The board agreed to send a letter of opposition to the Corp. of Engineers and other government representatives regarding the proposed change.
The clerk announced the polling hours at the town hall for the upcoming election on November 4th are 7 am to 8 pm.
There being no further business to transact, the meeting adjourned at 8: pm.
Deana St. Pierre
