Ideal Township Board Meeting, July 14th 2008

The meeting was called to order by Supervisor Brandt at 7:00 P.M. with the Pledge of Allegiance. Supervisor Wortham was not in attendance.

Motion by Brandt, seconded by Plein to accept the minutes of the June 9th, 2008 Board Meeting as read. Carried - unanimous

Motion by Brandt, seconded by Plein to accept the Treasurers report for June, 2008, check #14937 through #14992, totaling $41,637.07. Carried - unanimous

Motion by Plein, seconded by Brandt to pay all bills presented for payment by the Clerk, check #14993 through check #15032, totaling $121,902.43. Carried - unanimous

A resident requested the maintenance department clean up the downed trees from the recent high winds along Old Whiskey, Ruttger, Peoria and Winnamakee Shores Road. Supervisor Brandt agreed to have the debris removed.

Pat Ebnet requested an update on Wild Acres Road. Supervisor Brandt reported the estimate for laying down crushed asphalt was $9,140.00 which would be split with Breezy Point. Ideals portion would be $4,570.00.

Motion by Brandt, seconded by Plein to move ahead with having the crushed asphalt put down on Wild Acres Road at a cost of approximately $4,570.00. Carried - unanimous.

The Road and Bridge report was as follows:

  1. Supervisor Brandt reported the maintenance department was preparing the building site for construction of the maintenance building.
  2. The poison ivy along Ruttger Road has been sprayed.
  3. Paving has been completed on West Clear Lake, Forest Knolls and Winnamakee Shores but shouldering and crack sealing should begin next week.
  4. Brandt reported he made a request to have a resident remove rocks placed to close to South Clamshell Drive in the township road right of way.
  5. Brandt gave an update on the progress of the new maintenance building.
  6. There were no safety incidents.

Brandt reported a partial payment request of $100,000 from Anderson Brothers for road construction recently completed.

Motion by Brandt, seconded by Plein, to pay Anderson the partial payment of $100,000. Carried - unanimous.

The Fire Department report was as follows:

  1. There were 4 emergency runs the previous month.
  2. Chief Ron Schultz advised the board of the Beef Feed on August 13th.
  3. Schultz gave an estimate to purchase a tanker/pumper truck if ordered by the first of the year at $285,000.
  4. The Station 2 helicopter pad has been completed.
  5. The Dry hydrant at Boyds needs repair.
  6. There were no safety incidents.

The Park and Recreation report was as follows:

  1. Supervisor Plein reported the trees that died this spring were replaced at a cost of $875.

The Transfer Station report was as follows:

  1. Supervisor Plein reported Pequot Sanitation began picking up cardboard weekly at the transfer station.
  2. The new sign on Highway 16 has been installed.

Supervisor Brandt reported the rezoning request submitted by Driftwood Resort to Crow Wing County was approved by the commissioners.

Brandt advised the traffic survey measuring device has been placed near Boyds and gave an update on WAPOAŒs Lake Management plans.

The clerk advised the board that the federal mileage rate had been raised from .505 to .585 effective July 1st. Motion by Plein, seconded by Brandt to raise the mileage rate for Ideal Township to .585. Carried - unanimous.

The clerk requested a motion to approve the county trained election judges for the upcoming presidential election.

Motion by Brandt, seconded by Plein to accept the county approved election judges as appointed by the clerk. Carried - unanimous

The clerk advised the board that Sheriff Todd Dahl would be attending the regular August township meeting.

Brandt reported the town hall carpet had been soiled during a recent wedding and the hall renters agreed to pay to have the carpet cleaned as stated in the rental agreement.

There being no further business to transact, the meeting adjourned at 8:05 pm.
