Ideal Township Board Meeting, January 14th, 2008
The meeting was called to order by Supervisor Wortham at 7:00 P.M. with the Pledge of Allegiance. All members were in attendance.
Motion by Wortham, seconded by Brandt to accept the minutes of the December 10th, 2007 Board Meeting as presented. Carried - unanimous
Motion by Brandt, seconded by Plein to accept the Treasurers report for December, 2007. Carried - unanimous
Motion by Brandt, seconded by Plein to pay all bills presented for payment by the Clerk, check #14621 through check #14657, totaling $12,930.65. Carried - unanimous
Ideal resident Dave Johnson requested the Board explain the pros and cons of a township becoming a city. Some of the issued discussed were planning and zoning, the tax base and police coverage.
The Road and Bridge report was as follows:
- Supervisor Brandt reported the maintenance department was working on scraping roads.
- Brandt advised the Board a “No Turn Around for Very Large Trucks” sign had been ordered to address the Cul-De-Sac issue on Old Whiskey Road.
- Brandt asked the clerk to send a letter to Chuck Lane requesting the recent data received regarding the road in his new development be interpreted relevant to the townships road specifications.
- Brandt agreed to contact Rob Hall from the Crow Wing County Highway Department regarding having a turning lane added on Hwy 16 at Silver Peak Road.
- There were no safety incidents.
The Fire Department report was as follows:
- There were 2 emergency runs the previous month.
- Chief Stoltman advised the board that truck #9513 was returned to the DNR.
- Stoltman presented a signed agreement between the Fire Department and Ideal Sno Pros to use their 4-wheeler and Ranger with tracks.
- The new thermal imager has arrived and was demonstrated.
- The department agreed to purchase the boat from the Coast Guard for $4,000.
- Stoltman requested the clerk run a notice in the Echo stating applications for one position on the Fire Department were currently being received.
- 5 Fire Fighters were currently taking Fire Fighter 2 classes.
- There were no safety incidents.
- A discussion took place regarding the rescue boat and the expense to furnish it.
There was nothing new to report for Park and Recreation.
The Transfer Station report was as follows:
- Brandt reported a brochure was being printed up to explain the regulations and prices to be handed out when a permit is purchased.
- The metal bundles have been removed.
- “No Smoking” signs have been installed at the building with the recyclable materials.
- The last dumpster has been completed.
A discussion took place regarding the new sign for the transfer station. The board agreed to order a 2-sided sign for approximately $1,800.
Brandt reported that Crow Wing County agreed to the conservation easement suggested by the township regarding the Glorious Views plat. Also, the road issue has been resolved.
Brandt reported on the progress of the wood splitting for Big Island and his recent appointment as Chairman.
Brandt presented a letter from the Crow Wing County Parks Supervisor regarding a request by the Ideal Sno Pros to groom the ditch along Highway 16 from Ideal Corners to The Wharf. The board unanimously supported this request as snowmobiles already use the route heavily.
The board and the clerk discussed an ongoing problem with a lodging account keeping current on their taxes. The board agreed if the account stays delinquent, the renewal of this establishments liquor license could be withheld.
Brandt reported on the Pine River Watershed and the Sanitary Sewer District.
Supervisor Plein presented a year in review to be placed on the web site.
The clerk requested permission to select election judges from the approved list of judges received from the County for the March Township election.
There being no further business to transact, the meeting adjourned at 8:36 pm.
